Default Cruiser turns over allot before firing ?

Hi
I have a 01 dream cruiser. Bought about 6 months ago for my daughter. I noticed that it seems to crank over allot before firing. Runs fine but just allot of cranks before it starts. Not slow cranking,,just many cranks before firing. But seems to run fine after..
Any idea what could be causing this ?
Thanks

My first thought is low fuel pressure.
What might support this is if you let the pump run [ign switch on only] for a few seconds before cranking.
If it starts quicker, then check pressure, if it doesn't change then disregard.

How about your ignition parts? Worn plugs, weak spark would cause it to turn over more than necessary before catching and starting.

Hi
Thank you for your replies Ill try the fuel pressure trick when she gets home, thank you

I just replaced all plugs and wires about 4 months ago so dont think its that, I was getting a code about cylinder not firing or something and it was going into partial shut down mode. But that fixed the problem. Thank you though for replying.

For your model, there's a valve at the end of the fuel line where you can attach a gauge to find out what your fuel pressure is.

Does it crank longer on a cold engine, like when the vehicle has sat overnight? But starts just fine after its run for a while and not sat very long?

When my PT had these symptoms, it was the fuel pump.

I would suggest doing a battery load test. You can take it to an auto parts store where they will test the battery for free. Make sure they set the battery load tester to the correct amps that the battery is suppose to hold. It will also tell you if the battery is getting charged properly. Make sure the battery stays in the PT Cruiser when the test is done. Also be a good idea to clean the battery cable connectors.

If the battery checks out good then as other members posted check your fuel pressure. It should be 58 +/- 5 PSI. If that checks out good check to make sure you do a fuel pressure leak down test to make sure it holds the pressure.

Give us a post after you have checked out both suggestions and let us know what you have found out so far.

Hi
I did brand new battery at same time as plugs. When checking fuel pressure do I use regular tire gauge or will I need special tool ?
Thank you again to everyone's help.

Ok so just went out and sat there with key on for a minute and it started right up did it couple times and it worked both times. Car had been sitting all night.

I have not drove this car since I bought it for her really, this questions has nothing to do with previous question but motor valves sound very loud, maybe im just used to car but it sounds loud compared to my caliber.
