Hey 2sb! Well said!! I will only reuse the K&N in my new turbo when it comes. I don't feel like dropping another 300 and change for marginal peformance and more noise but to each his own.
Cruise on! |

The AirMax system for the turbo seems like it might be a nice piece to add to the turbo. I'm guessing to use it with the Helix power tower(throttle spacer) would be the best option. http://onestoptruckshop.com/ONLineOrdering/AirMax.htm
I've seen it as low as $249 somewhere, just can't find the site.... What do you all think? <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> 03 Silver GT - Stock as of now! |

crazy...I would think twice about the system you linked to. Even with that little shield on there it will still suck up a lot of underhood heat. Hot air does not make power. I have seen some Airaid systems that look like they acutally have a box that replaces the stock unit and seals against underhood heat. HEAT IS THE ENEMY! I am new to these cars but I have been twisting wrenchs as a hobby for 25 years. I would imagine that the GT's are equipped with knock sensors. Hot intake air will promote predetonation and when this is detected, the computer will pull timing and reduce your performance accordingly. A lot of times when they run the dyno tests on this stuff they do it with the hoods up and large fans blowing air at them. They do not accurately reflect everyday driving experience.
Just my $.02 |

I don't understand all this talk about underhood heat. The stock unit even on a non-turbo draws air through the inner fender panel from the driver's wheel well. The only hot air is off the pavement in summer and that's only when you're sitting still.

I haven't turbo'ed my 2002 touring package yet, it has 35000 on it. At $5000 a unit,I install,I'd rather put a garage up for the money on my land. I take my K&N aspirated bomb up to the 5000 plus rpm and drive harder, rather than switch (It's an ole Harley thing push it harder and make it go). I test drove a turbo model and took the salesman on a wild ride to see what it could do and I was impressed,I think he was happy to see me go. Wait till you can get a 5 speed behind the turbo and run some V rated tires that will hug the road before you do the alltimate trade. In Northern California you can finance the factory turbo for $ 22000 not a bad deal, but wait for the 5 speed turbo it's gonna be owesome!!You might even think about nitrous injection for those times you have to perform moments , but run V rated tires or you'll be wasting your rubber. Your lucky if you can afford all amenities. Pat your self on the back. I'm patiently waiting for lotto to come through. My wait is gonna be long.
