Default Air Box ?

I want to make my own air intake. That means removing the stock air box. However I see a rubber hose going from the lower left box to the engine. I can't seem to figure out what this hose is for. Can I just put a cork in it when I remove the box? Thanks!

It goes to the PCV valve

Ok, thanks, but can I just leave it loose? Put a filter on it? Or ?

When you make the new air box, install it at a inconspicuous location so it can serve its intended purpose.

I am guessing he has a GT (from his username and the fact he wants a CAI). It doesn't actually go to the PCV valve. The PCV valve is on the passenger side of the valve cover straight up and IIRC goes to the back of the manifold behind the throttle body. That hose goes to a "make-up air valve" or some such nonsense that sits where N/A PTs have the PCV. For all intents and purposes, your answer is correct. I would still treat it like the PCV for purposes of keeping the hose.

That is a make up air hose that goes to the valve cover just beyond the PCV connection, it is filtered air from the air box with a foam filter to keep bugs out.

You could probably connect it to a paper element fuel filter with larger connection to fit the hose.

I just checked mine and there is a little bit of vacuum on that valve cover make up port.

That air is not filtered. The hole is in the air filter base. All of that is below the filter. The air comes in the driver's side then goes up to the filter. The filtered air goes into the hose to the turbo. The only filter the make-up air hose has is that little sponge they put on it that usually gets all disgusting oil, but that just kind of sits loose in the slot in the filter base.

It seems they anticipate it pushing more air out than sucking it in, but again this is probably all fairly meaningless.

The breather side(ventalation ) is not filtered air...mis-conception maybe some think because of the foam part. The foam is their to collect oil vapor from contaminating the filter box.

ITSA "BREATHER" hose not a "SUCK THE AIR" hose.

Gotta love forums.....
