Default Weapon R Intake

I found this intake today on E-bay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tego ry=38634

This intake has a foam filter on the end, and there's quite a big write up on why foam is better than the paper or fabric/oil (K&N) type filters. It also claims that a magazine named TPR did a test on just about every intake on the market, and the weapon R beat them all. What do ya'll think?

I was looking at a foam filter similar to those last week - Adam brought one over after I had installed his V.A.K. system on my car. Like I said, it was similar, but I can't say it was exactly the same piece. The pointy shaped housing was identical as was the fishnet over the foam filter........draw your own conclusions.

My caution is this: when we held the filter up and looked through it - we could actually look through it!!! There were holes large enough to pass something probably 2mm wide through it!! An object the size of a bb (as in bb-gun bb) could fit through the holes!!!

Not on my car you don't.

I have one on my car, but only for shows. I kept it on for about a week to see if there was any difference between that and the drop-in K&N filter. I am using it with Adam's VAK system. Mike-in-Orange saw an old beat-up one that my husband sent to Adam to use as a prototype, so he could make his pipe fit for that filter. The new one doesn't have any big holes in it. I noticed that it is louder and now the car really takes off from a stop much quicker than before. I have to adjust my driving to get used to the faster response. There is a picture of mine on Adam's website, prototypepower.com. It seems pretty good, but I probably won't use it every day.

OK, that's fair enough. Still, given the overall condition of the piece I saw, and the size and number of holes in the filter, I wonder if that filter is the weak link in this piece. It still seems odd to me that the filter, which didn't look dirty really, had all those holes!!

Would you recommend it, or should I go the K&N route?
