was that with or without the baffles in?
I find it not too bad with the baffles installed but obnoxious w/o them. If you pull the interior, & "dynamat" it, it will quiet it down a bit too. Thats what I did & also aded 1/4" "wet suit" foam over that. Road noise is almost completely gone, but that drone at 2800-3500 rpm still just kills me w/o baffles. Still love the sound though[8)]

I have the BTG cat-back dual on my 2004GT, and it also has that drone @ 2800-3400 rpm. Unfortunately, that's right at 75-80 mph. On 75 mph highways, where I spend a lot of time, that's a problem.
I even installed the baffles in the end of the pipes and am still very disappointed with the drone. I wish I'd checked the forums more before I spent the $500. BlueTurboGT, the Mopar/Borla has NO drone at any speed? How is the loudness compared to stock? I want quiet, but like the look of dual exhaust. Anyone try the Illusion dual system from PTeazer they say you need when you install one of their roll pans or Illusion rear bumper? |

I have locally made duals from the cat back and its a loud roar, but I like it and quite honestly with the music playing I don't really hear all that much. Once I hit 50mph its like magic (I hope nothing is wrong here)but the roar just disappears and quite as all get out.

Yes, it does sound different than stock, no doubt about it. And no, I don't have the baffles installed. What's loud to one person, annoying even, may not be a problem for someone else - we all have different tastes. But this seems to be a different case - almost too extreme for it to simply be a matter of preference. |

Mike,
I see you live in Orange. I live in Carlsbad - not too far south of you. Maybe someday we could meet and compare? It was actually during a drive to Palm Springs last Friday that I decided I really didn't like the BTG soley because of the drone. It's a harmonic resonance that is just annoying to me, and while I was alone, it would not have been easy to talk to my wife had she been there. You and I seem to have almost identical cars - same model, year, even color, - and the BTG. A comparison test might help a lot of us. Glenn |

Sounds like a plan Glenn. In fact, between these two posts of mine I had to take my wife for her weekly allergy shots and I specifically cruised the freeway at 3,000rpm (80mph) with the radio off - we talked as normal as can be (for us that is).
Send me an email and let's figure something out - real research, yeah baby!! |

Maybe you guys will think I'm crazy but I've had both types of PT's, N/A and Turbo. I've also driven several of each model other than mine. I've noticed that the non-turbo PT's have a stronger resonance frequency which has a ringing effect that is excited by certain audio frequencies while listening to music, from certain exhaust note frequencies, and from some chassis, suspension, or interior trim pieces that resonance or ring. Has anybody else noticed this?

Makes sense.. Remember, youre sitting inside of a steel drum while driving. So, if you put a tuning fork on this rum it will resonate a sertain way. If, while its resonating you touch it in certain places it will change in pitch and tone.
The trick is getting a nice loud exhaust without getting arrested or deaf! lol

purplept, when I test drove the N/A and the GT both my wife and I said the same thing, the N/A is much louder then the GT.

Resonance exacerbated by the exhaust note at ~3,100 rpm is exactly what I'm talking about. Builds to a peak at that RPM.
