I would suggest checking the battery. Have a battery load test done with the battery in the PT Cruiser. Batteries can be sensitive to cold weather.

If the battery checks out good I would check the fuel pressure. Make sure you are getting 58 +/- 5 PSI.

If the fuel pressure is good post when was the last time the spark plugs and spark plug wires have been replaced.

My 06 was taking 4 to 6 tries at starting when cold, threw the charger on for an hour and tried when it was cold, started right up.

Changed battery and all is good.

I've never owned a vehicle that improved so much just by fitting a new battery... probably the best 50 Euros I've spent (apart from the new timing belt and gubbins). This statement is a bit difficult to quatify - the whole thing just felt "more together" and I suspect thats due to the age of the electrics as much as the design - it needed better current than the old battery gave - although the old battery started it fine.

I did have a cold start problem - that turned out to be the cold start valve (replaced with eBay article 252553723837) - now this one seems to hold the revs up a bit more than I would like - ie during gear changes, the revs don't instantly drop to tickover, but if you like a "racing change" that won't bother you.
It might be something else that is causing that, or it might be normal, or it might be because the new valve is junk - but I can't be arsed to look into it. It's starting fine and doesn't stall when it's cold any more, so thats fine for me until the warmer weather comes.

If it's the fuel pump / lines / filter suspected, allow it to sit for 30 seconds after the keys in the ignition and switched on before cranking it.

If it improves by doing that... you're on the right track, because you've given time for pressure to build up.

Ok ,I put a new battery when I got car, last week, sat in garage for over a year,I installed battery, tried starting then and fired up first click, drove home, put new rad in ,blead , started fine, let sit outside in teens temp, was hard starting in the am,runs good, I'm guessing by the looks of wires might be original. Gonna try it again today. 67000 miles". What plugs do you recommend

Is your PT Cruiser a base model or with a turbo?
