Default Standard exhaust back box innards - anyone ... ?

Anyone got a picture - or can write a rough description of - how the standard back box is laid out inside?

My existing one is rotted through where the pipe meets the back box and is just about held together by fibreglass

I just got my new one through, and a couple of things struck me:

1) It's farken HEAVY - almost as much as the single back seat and

2) I like the sound my blown exhaust makes

So...

Before I fit this new back box on, I thought I'd take the opportunity to open it up and gut it - since the TuV (vehicle inspection / MOT) over here in Germany is deadly on non-standard stuff.

My main consideration is that the 2.0ltr N/A engine apparently needs back pressure (?) so my idea is to open it up from the top (using an angle grinder cutting wheel) and while keeping back pressure, gut it of sound proofing then weld it back up - the opening being "invisible" since Herr TuV Inspektor will just see a solid exhaust back box.

Ergo, it would be nice to know what I was dealing with before I go in...
