Default Motor Mount Extensions?

I've seen some with, and some without. What do these upper and lower motor mount extensions really do?

Are we talking extensions or motor mount inserts?

I believe the OP is referring to the upper & lower torque struts that have the extra piece or tab on the ends:

Okay.

That little part (or extension of the casting) is supposed to help reduce vibration. Since some of them are just thin pieces of stamped sheet metal, I would bet that they reduce vibration by being a harmonic dampener.

Those harmonic reducer tabs are not proven by anyone including Chrysler to be needed on any Chrysler platform or other platforms using a similar Torque strut designed and were never shown to be an improvement on any Chrysler product of a complete vehicle. Some of the initial engine only testing supposedly did show an improvement in engine harmonic vibration levels at very low engine speeds, my guess idle. It was not clear which of the Chrysler 4 cylinder was used for testing. Chrysler never tested a complete model having to do with the Torque Struts. Some other platforms using the Chrysler power plants in their model vehicles did not use the harmonic tabs with their mounts/Torque struts.

This is second hand information given to me from a very reliable and good source that had to do with the Engineering (an Engineer himself) and drive-train development(head of) at Chrysler(now retired). Some of you know who it is!
