Wink Cam followers(hydraulic lash adjusters)

Does anyone know of a tool to remove the lash adjusters with the cams installed? I believe I have a noisy one when the engine is cold. I saw a special tool mentioned in the service manual but that one is expensive. Will another version work to get them out without removing the cams?

Schley Products SL99700 Valve Tool - Cylinder Head Tools

Realistically I'm too impatient to order that. I'd study the picture and then make something.

I think handy used one of those and mentioned something about it flying at his head when she slipped... I'm on my phone/can't find it right now

I've got one as already referenced in Rob's link.

They are a little flimsy and the handle is too short. I wrapped the handle in duct tape and stuck a 18 inch piece of PVC schedule-40 pipe over it. This makes it easier to operate with one hand as is required if you don't have a helper. And even then, it takes a little practice to use it. But once you learn to hold your mouth right, you can pull all the rockers without taking the cams loose.

PS: If you put and longer handle on it as I suggest, be very careful. Since it's flimsy, it pops out of place very easily. And when this happened to me, I popped myself in the face with the make-shift handle several times.

Wink Re: Cam followers(hydraulic lash adjusters)

Thanks Rob and Handy, I did some more searching and found a Sealey VS168 that I like the looks of and seems to be a little more beefy and compresses evenly across the spring. I guess I'll see when it arrives. Thanks for your input and I'll post an update after I use it or abuse it, which ever might be the case.
