Default Extended Warranty

What is the opinion on an extended bumper to bumper or any type of Chrysler warranty.

Art,

This was just discussed on another forum. I few of us agreed that if you don't do any work yourself or know anything about routine maintenance, then the extended warranty is probably a good idea. If your just buying the PT and plan to finance it for a few years and the extended warranty only ads a couple of dollars...it's probably worth peace of mind to get it. That's my $.02

I think you left one thing out Crewzin. That its best to obtain the extended warranty through Chrysler (for piece of mind) and not an outside outfit.

BDD,

I thought Art was talking about the Chrysler's Bumper to Bumper extended warranty or any other Chrysler warranty. Maybe not [:I]

The PT Cruiser has a very good reliability record. No need for the extended warranty IMHO. Just my two cents.

I'm getting one on my wife's Town & Country, but haven't on my PT - here's my reasoning -
I drive the PT and pay attention to warning signs (noises).
The T&C cost lots more.
The T&C has so many "bells and whistles" that it scares me (doors that are motorized, digital temperature control, DVD player, etc).

The most likely large expense that may come up on a PT is the automatic transmission.

I have a Chrysler extended warranty on my 2002 Chrysler Concord LXI, because of all the bells and whistles. I have seen a PT with 120k on it and the needs where the usual, brakes, fluids, ect. From what I have read the only weak component is the trans, which if maintanced will give good service.

Don I have to disagree. If you intend to keep your Cruiser long term the extended warranty is most likly a good investment. A transmisson overhaul would be in the $ 3,000 + range. Price a power window motor or power steering pump and you'll change your mind. When you consider what the warranty cost it's cheap by comparison. If you trade every 3 or 4 years it not worth the cost. I had the power steering pump and the rack replaced under warranty and I sure would have been really pissed if I had to pay for it. The parts alone were almost $1,000

I didn't get it on the Cruiser, but wish I had. At least for the small extra cost in the payment that gives peace of mind.
