Default Oil Light On When Stopped

Bought this 2004 Turbo back in October 2016 with 82,000 miles on it.

Never felt this was right, but whenever I come to a stop (in gear) the car would vibrate like it was idling too low. Last night, I came to a stop light and the oil light came on. I brought the rpm up from about 700 to just under 1000 and the oil light went out.

Thinking it may have been low on oil (dip stick said it was slightly low), I added half a quart. This morning, the problem still exists, only now, the oil light will come on in idle / Park. Rev it slightly and the oil light goes out. (?)

What should I be looking at for starters ?

Thanks,
Mark.

Try the oil pressure sender. I had this pop up around thanksgiving and it popped back up christmas night. If it is the cause be sure to replace with a genuine Mopar part or else it will go out again.

Maybe dirty fuel injectors? Try a fuel injector cleaner with the highest amount of PolyEtherAmine you can find. This one has 25-50% http://www.amsoil.com/lit/G2543.pdf?zo=1181889 and you pour into your gas tank. This is a detergent based cleaner, most others are less effective solvent based cleaners.

I'm assuming this is a suggested cure for the rough low idle and not the oil light ?

Might help with both. I've seen low, rough idle, flicker engine and oil lights on other vehicles that seem to go away when idle is higher and smoother.

About as far south as you can get in Ontario Canada.

The oil senders are common for failing at and above 10 year old PT Cruisers or with those that have more than 70k miles USA 2.4 model PT Cruisers.

The sensors is not completely friendly to change a little hard to get to.

It is not likely to be anything else nor will anything aside from changing it cure the random activation. The oil circulation system on 2.4 is top notch and seldom fails caused by wear or high mileage. Most failures are neglect of oil and filter changes.

My information is not internet researched but by practical experience. I changed 4 last year and the shop I occasionally work in maybe twice as many. I keep 2 on hand now as part of common PT Cruiser parts that periodically need changing.

AIRTEX is my choice of senders.
