Unhappy Draining battery issues

Looking for help I have an 05 cruiser base model no turbo no limited. Not sure what the issue is but my battery keeps draining and when you charge the battery the car starts but if you turn on the heat or lights the car dies! We have changed and put a new alternator we took the battery in tested good we did the meter testing from the alt to battery that is good. Checked fuses none are blown we are at a loss! It is our work vehicle and need it back up and running just at a total loss! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Your problem requires having a Digital volt ohm meter to find the voltage drain on your PT Cruiser.

Why did you replace the Alternator?
Did you personally see the load test of the battery and if so how was it conducted?
Are the battery connection in clean condition both at the battery and the other end specifically the ground cable?
I suggest to charge check and recheck the battery.
Check for voltage at the battery engine on at 2000 rpm.

Your findings and answers to the questions will greatly help us help you. .

Yes my husband a digital meter and has done the test for the voltage. And you can watch the meter as the car is running going down. He personally took the battery in and watched them test it. The alt was changed because it was bad it was the original. He said the fan was not turning on the inside.

With the battery completed charged what is the battery voltage when you first start the PT Cruiser and at 2000 rpm as NitroPT posted?

I am suggesting we need to find out if the battery is bad, charging system is working properly or if you have an electrical short causing the battery to drain as posted above.

If the battery voltage is only 12.5 volts when you start the engine most likely the generator is not charging. Double check the battery voltage at 2,000 rpm to see if the generator is working at all. If the battery voltage starts to go up at 2,000 you might have a short somewhere in the charging circuit and this can be diagnosed further. Some members have put the generator wires in the wrong location. Has the wires been checked and verified to be in the right locations. Is the replacement generator a new one, rebuilt, or a re manufactured one? Some members have gotten bad rebuilt generators from an auto parts store and have had to replace them up two times before getting a good one.

I am not sure but I will ask him. Also the check engine light and battery light are staying in. Could it be and he hates to think it that even though he got a new alt that even the new one could be bad? He has cleared the codes but they pop right back on.

What codes was triggered?

If the PT Cruiser has a major short draining the battery the link below will help you find the short by pulling one fuse out at a time but first we need to find out if the generator is charging.

If you are not positive the battery is good the link below might help determine if the battery is good or not.
