Wink Member's Performance Goals for Their PT Cruisers

In a lot of the performance threads here on the forum, folks end up arguing. But when you get past the usual unproductive "I know more than you do" posts, what you are often left with is a bunch of members that pretty well agree on the methods used for PT Cruiser performance, but their own individual performance goals and/or concepts of performance are different.

So in this thread, I'd like folks to state what their performance goals are for their own PT Cruisers. And once we've built up enough of these, we can reference back to them. That might help folks understand that when their buddy talks about performance it may mean something very different than what they themselves are thinking about.

Please give the following:

* Short summary of your concept. (ex. My PT should be a more powerful version of Herby the Love Bug)
* List of what you want to accomplish. (ex. I want to outrun all Mustang GT's with girl drivers)
* And a list of mods you have planned to reach you goals. (ex. Planing to add turbo the size of a jet engine and a "rattle can" of NOS)

Hmm. Well, I'd like to be able to drive The RATMOBILE again, after the K frame broke on the way in this morning . . . so . . .

I'd like my wife to be able to drive my mother-in-law to the doctor.

I'd like to use it to power thru snow drifts on the way to work.

Mods: new front suspension parts

I figure my PT will never be that fast. If I want fast I'll remortgage the house and go buy a Hellcat...

I'd like it to be "slow and low", so at some point I'd like to put in drop springs and new struts...

Other than that, I'm all about how it looks. She's pretty sharp already, but I'm starting a make over to include PTeazer smoothie front, rollpan, and Brizio ribber bumpers...

Here's the "now" pic...

I have a original PTer from day 1 living very close to me and associated with many of the members in our PT Cruiser club also all original PTrs that has actually done almost what you described and a few other PT makeover variations if you are serious I can put you in touch with him to build it for you.

I laughed once because one member posted his usual internet found information picture of his 4x4 PT Cruiser once. I understand because a couple of his PT Cruiser projects have received many show awards and notoriety in the old PT Cruiser community.

i don't see the point of the thread. it's unproductive in itself. instead, encourage quality posts by discouraging bad behavior that does nothing but create problems.
if we keep on the route of time wasting, arguing and not self-policing as a community, this forum becomes less and less useful. there are more than enough mangina policeman around here who moderate and delete posts of other highly experienced users to make the situation even more ridiculous. we need less of that, and more encouraging of productive material while discouraging unproductive material.

the time of a community of active performance oriented users is all but gone, and all were left with is people who are too poor to afford to do anything on their cruisers except maintain them since they got the pt cruiser from there grandma after she died.

this is the format a thread should take:

I want to do X, I estimate it does Y power increase.
Research similar modifications, post estimation.

Layout a base line dyno or 1/4 mile time.

perform modification, come back and post results from dyno or 1/4 mile time.

anything that doesn't attempt to provide any real data, or it's just speculation should be locked or moved into general discussion.

Well gee, I was always of the opinion that my 02 PT N/A had totally adequate performance for me.

Then I went and bought the 05 GT Convertible and the performance difference was quite noticeable.

Guess I'm just getting old, there have been occasions with the 05 GT that it felt almost too powerful for me to handle. Don't think I need any more performance than what it has, just want to drive them both until the 'Belt' breaks.

I guess modern Harley riders also have the same concern, only their 'belts' can be more easily replaced.

Really strange for me I guess, I've always been a torque monster kind of guy.

heh, heh, I might never know if my PT's are ever in limp home mode since I never go beyond 3K rpm anyway.

I don't ask too much from my '01 Limited. Just get me from point A to point B and back again. She does that very well and looks good doing it. Can't ask for much more than that from her.

If I have the money available, I'll look into getting a GT cruiser when it's time to replace her since I'll be retired and looking to do a bit more traveling than I currently do.
