What would be a good muffler to put on, if I did go this route? I have a REALLY good shop here in town, they did a bunch of custom work on the exhaust on my Duster a few years back when I was driving that. Thanks, Matt

Why do you say the muffler is crap? Was it just loud? or is it a crappy build quality? Loud to a point is okay with me, but if it gets to loud, it's cool for a while, but it'll get old fast. Thanks everyone for the help, Matt

Dynomax makes alot of differnt kinds of mufflers.
I have a single Dynomax Bullet Muffler on my Malibu and sounds pretty good, however, the car does have a V8 with a nice cam [8D] However, my friend's cousin has a 86ish Dodge Daytona with a Turbo 4cyl. He put 2 bullets inline (with no cat) and it sounded good without being too loud. Sounded pretty deep as far as 4-bangers go. The bullet muffler is a single sttraight-through glass pack (no "ribs" or louvers inside). I got mine for $40 at a local speed shop. If I were you, I woudl get 2 Bullets and put then inline right behind eachother under the center of the car (close to, but before the back axle of the car) then have a exhaust shop make you a new pipe to weld inpalce of your current stock muffler. The work should be about $40-$50, definetly no more then $80. So for under $150 you would have a good exhaust system. Here are pciutres of the Bullet Glasspack on my Malibu. I don't know how much this helps you, you can see what the muffler looks like and see how it can be placed almost anywhere: ![]() ![]()

The PaceSetter is extremely loud and something broke off on the inside and was rattling around. The muffler was painted black and the paint started peeling after just a short time. As I said, the pipes were good so I kept them, just replaced the muffler.

I had a Pacesetter header on my 4 cyl. Jeep. About six months after it was on the hanger broke off at the weld and left a hole in the header pipe. It became very loud (because of the hole) and performance suffered. It was in an awkward place and a trans guy I know welded it back on for me and then it was fine. He said it was a b***h to get to and had to use some creativity to do it.
I did not do any off-roading with my Jeep so I feel this should not have happened. I do not have much faith in Pacesetter and would not buy anything from them for my PT. Just for the record, I had many, many mods to my Jeep and this was the only aftermarket part to fail in the 5 years I owned it. |

I had looked at BTG's axle back "stage 1" but have been told that it is extremely loud on a N/A.
ARGH!!! what to do what to do!? If at all possible i DONT want to cut the existing exhaust. i want to keep that intact ( in my barn) if i need to tone it down for some reason. As ive metioned in the forum on other posts; i dont mind hearing the exhaust inside, id just rather it not be obnoxious. Right now im torn between economy ( the hearthrob) and Looks/performance ( BTG catback, ouch on wallet) any other ideas?

My guess, since no one has said anything about the Billy Boat exhaust, that no one has heard of it, or seen it on a cruiser before? I guess the price would scare a bunch of people away, even though its the same as the BTG. Does anyone have the Flowmaster or MagnaFlow cat-backs? They are a bit cheaper then the BTG checking in at around $310, and $380 respectively. Has anyone heard either of these? I really like flowmasters on trucks, they sound really mean, but this is a lot smaller motor, so I dont know if it would have the same flowmaster rumble that they are known for. Matt

Don't know about Billy Boat but I have the BTG catback duals on my turbo and love them.
All stainless and they fit like a glove, I had no problem installing them myself.
