Default Wheel Hub Assembly

Hello all! Doing repairs on my 2005 Base PT Cruiser.

Can any one recommend a Wheel Bearing and Hub Assembly?

I see a lot of after markets on Ebay, but dont know if I should buy one of those.

I would like to hear from your recommendations and experiences if possible.

Thank in advance for the info!

Do you need them for the front or rear? And if you need them for the front, do you just want the bearings or the hubs too? The front hubs are reusable and can be bought with the bearing or separately.

One thing to keep in mind. There is a ground strap wire the goes from the steering knuckle to the body. That is there to make sure static electricity does not discharge through and wear out the wheel bearings. Just google it and you will see.

if you plan on keeping the car a while, i would recommend you buy whatever assembly you can find locally with a decent warranty.

Handy Cruiser,

I'm thinking of replacing both front wheel bearing and hub assembly. The front driver side some times makes grinding noise, but i like changing sets.

CJB340,

Thanks I'll keep that in mind.

Rob302,

Yes, I do plan on keeping my PT. I'll check the local Auto Zones and Advance Auto stores.

Thanks All,

MyFuzzyDice

ooh- as for experiences.. i changed my bearings. it was a PITA to remove the wheel, the brakes, the axle nut, the knuckle, unbolt the retainer, press off the old ones, install the new ones. reinstall the retainer, reinstall the knuckle, the brakes, the wheel... only to have it start grinding about two blocks later. parts store delivered me the narrower bearings... meaning i got to do the job twice in the same day. fun!!

I suggest to stay with a name brand like Moog/National. The off brands are not built to the same standards.

I replaced my front bearings with National brand from Autozone and no problems. Since RockAuto removed the service department that can verify the part number is a match with your VIN number I have been purchasing my parts locally.

If your going to be doing the front wheel bearing you might want to consider replacing the front struts if needed. It's only 3 more nuts in the top strut mount and the 2 bolts holding the ground strap and ABS sensor.
