Default P302 code misfire still happening 2008 PT Cruiser

I bought my daughter a 2008 PT Cruiser with 90,000 miles on it. It has run well until recently the Check Engine light has come on and blinks sometimes. The code showed a misfire in cylinder 2. So, to be proactive I have replaced the plugs, the wires, the ignition coil, and the fuel injector for cylinder 2...... the bad news is that the engine is still running rough and the check engine light still comes on, and the code still shows the same... Please Help!!

Look for any cracks on the upper intake. Along the seams of the plastic runners. Also check the torque of that upper manifold of the five bolts that hold it down. They should be 105 in lbs. (that's INCH POUNDS) not to be confused with FOOT POUNDS which would snap the heads off the bolts.

If everything looks good, you might want to disassemble the upper intake and check the 4 rubber rectangle gaskets between manifolds.

There's also a sequence for tightening down the manifold bolts...

Did you do an engine cylinder compression check on all cylinders when you replaced the spark plugs to see if there is a difference in compression between cylinder 2 and the others? Some members have had partially burnt valves triggering the P0301 to P0304 codes.

Question Re: P302 code misfire still happening 2008 PT Cruiser

Still running very rough at idle, have already replaced the ignition coil, plugs, plug wires, air intake manifold gaskets, and I did do a compression check and it read as follows: cylinder 1= 120, cylinder 2=70, cylinder 3=110, cylinder 4=120.
Now What.........

Would it be worthwhile to try Retore, and or do a Seafoam cleaning to see if that cleans anything up, or does it sound more like a vacuum leak somewhere? I really do not want to take it to a mechanic if I do not have to.....

When performing a compression check there should not be greater than a 25 percent variation in cylinder compression on all four cylinders and the minimum reading called out in the service manual is 100 psi. Your cylinder #2 reading varies more than 25 percent and the reading is below the minimum acceptable level. Steve mentioned the possibility of burned exhaust valves and I too suspect that may be your issue but in order to be more precise a cylinder leak down check should be performed on the engine to isolate the problem area. If you are not familiar with this test or unable to perform the test a reputable mechanic could perform it for you and show you the results. At the least, I believe you are probably looking at an upper end tear down to correct the issue.

I agree mostly with the last response but I suggest re-doing your compression test making sure that you do not exceed 5 revolution per cylinder and than after to do a wet compression test. Then if the results are poor to proceed with a leak down test.

The 2.4 has engine has a hardy head and most problems are head gasket associated.

I totally agree with NitroPT. You want to do a full diagnosis before doing anything else. Let us know if you don't know how to do a wet compression and we will post it for you.
