Default Oil Light came on intermittently today

OK, so on the way back from shopping in The RATMOBILE with my wife today, while sitting at a light, the car chimed and the oil light came on. I immediately, put it in neutral and lightly revved it and the light went off. Did this a couple times until we could pull into a parking lot to check the oil. Oil level is fine, and there was no clattering when the light came on. I was able to drive home without a problem.

My first thought was the sending unit, since I had one go bad twice on my 1996 Mazda 626. Plus, when I changed the oil a few weeks back, I saw some drips hanging, but couldn't really tell where they had come from.

Immediately I logged on here and found this thread:

Oil Light On When Stopped

And sure enough I see the all-knowing NitroPT has the most likely solution. Replace the sending unit. So I went and picked one up and hope to have my new mechanic install it tomorrow, since my wife needs to take her Mom to the doctor in Utica on Tuesday.

BTW - when I drove over to get the part the light never came on.

SO, I will chime back in if the new sending unit solves the problem.

MEANWHILE, the battery in my van is so dead the charger won't charge it, and my clothes dryer is acting up - I think it's over-heating. So I took the hose off and brushed it out. Still does it. Gonna tear into it tomorrow after work.

Get a new battery for the van and check the lint trap in your dryer. If you don't clean them out on a regular basis, they can clog and cause a fire hazard. You'll need to pull the dryer out and get yourself a long handled "vent brush" from a hardware store. Been there, done that. If that doesn't seem to do the trick, take a close look at your heating element. Sometimes they'll start to over heat before burning out and needing a replacement.

Yep... Already keep the dryer hose clean, I have a brush, and we keep the lint trap clean. I did not know that about the heating element.

Since I just got laid off today, I'll be spending some time tearing into it.

Don't go buying one until you need it. That thing could last another day or another year. No way to tell. You might go online and start finding prices for another one, before you get desperate, though.
