Default DIFFERENT RADIATOR BRANDS & THICKNESSES

I have a 2002 non turbo pt cruiser . I am probably going to get another radiator but I can't accurately measure mine in the car . From what I can tell it is a wimpy 1" thick . Is there a thicker rad available?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I bought the $60 rock Auto radiator. I beat the piss out of the car and never had and trouble with overheating. Anything more expensive is just a waste of cash, IMO

do you have ac?

do you have an auto trans?

is it 100 degrees where you live?

do you beat it with the ac on in 100 degree temp?

is this the TYC2298?

Thanks

Handy_Cruiser did a great job at one time measuring the PT Cruiser radiators and I think a couple aftermarket ones or at least found the specification on the internet.

Now what I did is a comparison between a Turbo radiator and a NA for temperature control.

ZERO difference!!!!

Although I would get the Turbo applicated radiator for my GT Turbocharged PT Cruiser, from a cooling stand point if a PT Cruiser is NA upgrading to a Turbo Radiator will do absolutely nothing in the way of temperature control.

A suggestion ...paint the radiator semi or flat black. Some tests done with finned cooling radiators have shown at low speed vehicle operation of some increased cooling properties.

The PT Cruiser radiator ability to control heat is not about thickness but more about airflow!!

I have the original 16 year old radiator, never had a problem (cept for the fan).

YES it's Auto Trans

Yes, I use A/C all the time

Yes, it gets to be 100 degrees sometimes. Above 90 most of the summer.

I do flush it every 3-4 years using 50/50 mix.

Haha yes I beat on it when it was 100 out, actually cranked, no issues. Mine has a manual trans, but that radiator works for either.

Airflow is a problem that the factory helped with by adding those black pads around the radiator/condenser unit held by plastic pins. These are often discarded by mechanics and owners doing maintenance work but they are necessary.
Air flow through the grille to the core and condenser must be blocked from escaping over under or around rather than THROUGH the coolers.
This problem is a curse of early hotrods where larger engines and small radiators meet and easily solved by thorough inspection to find the airpaths by passing the core faces. Once determined you can use duct tape to seal leaks between sheet metal panel joints.
