Default Why are cooling fans so expensive?

I looked on rockauto and cooling fans are like $100 bucks. Why so pricy? Is it because the demand for them are high?

you can search the model number found at rock auto at summitracing.com and then call to have them do their price beat guarantee. make sure they also factor in the 5% off rock auto discount code

i put a nissan sentra fan in my mustang, it was $150.. i dont find $100 to be too expensive.

It depends on what you're getting, too. You can get just the bare fan, the fan with relays, or the fan with relays and wiring harness.

IMO, you should get the fan with relays and wiring harness. The reason I say this is, I had the fan replaced on my PT a while back, and I asked for new relays as well. I didn't know the fan came 3 different ways, so the shop got the fan, but purchased the relays separate. A short time after replacing, the high speed was not working again. Took it back to the shop and it needed the section of wiring harness from the fan relays to the main harness as the connector to the main harness had melted slightly, preventing a good connection. You can't get that section of harness separate. The shop had to get another complete fan assembly, just to get the section of harness, and they are stuck with a fan with relays. The shop did the initial troubleshooting, but had they found everything, (the melted connector) they would have gotten the complete fan assembly from the start, and I wouldn't have had to make a return visit to them.

Why is health insurance so expensive?

Both are a mystery I suppose but if people are comparing $100 aftermarket to OEM I am not sure that is a bad price?

2005 PT Cruiser ATX GT Turbo radiator fan under 100 bucks.

If....on any PT Cruiser the cost of a replacement fan any year or model exceed 150.00 consider an aftermarket universal radiator or pair of radiator fans with a aftermarket fan controller.

Waaaaay better than any factory radiator fan!

You can hear mine activate.

It takes about an hour or 2 to instal a universal one and set up its own dedicated rely, fuse, switch.

+1

It's very rare that Nitro and I agree on anything including what's for dinner. But in this case, an aftermarket fan is likely the best and may be the most cost effect solution for the OP considering the planned engine swap. It may help eliminate one of the problems that has to be worked out. Just be sure and get a good quality aftermarket fan and wire it as intended. I've seen a lot of them fail pretty quickly.

Be advised the only truly expensive fan for a PT is for the 2003 Turbo ONLY which is a variable speed Mercedes fan motor.
All other PTs including 2001-10 N/A cars and 2004-2008 Turbos use the same factory two-speed fans.

You don't have to replace the whole fan assembly. I replaced only the motor, very easy to replace, once the assembly is out and cost me only around $65.00
