P0016 ? bad PCM ??

Default P0016 ? bad PCM ??

Hi all. my 05 gt convertible is sick. im getting a P0016 code camshaft crankshaft code. i replaced the crank sensor and plug, camshaft sensor and plug with mopar parts today. still get that code. i had the battery unhooked when i put a camshaft sensor from advance auto in two days ago after getting the P0016 code. car worked perfect. couldn't ask for more. drove 15 miles. i shut car off when restarting within 10 minutes the check engine light came back on. checked code P0016 again. my dealer friend told me to use genuine mopar parts. so i bought a cam and crank sensor from him today. now only get 1 mile and the code is back. when the light is on i get back fires through the intake like it is out of time. but it is not out of time. after clearing the code the code comes back on instantly. unless i unhook the battery. my dealer friend wants to flash the computer. im all for it what do i have to loose. any ideas ? i did notice the computer is from auto computer exchange.

Check all the wiring and connections to both sensors. After a search on your problem there were a couple owners that found frayed wires on one of the sensors.

im going to try that tomorrow. thats why i changed the plugs hoping the problem was there. so many people worked on this car before me. its so frustrating.

The use of a SCAN tool at the diagnostic connector to check/clear DTC's?

Before replacing a camshaft sensor the voltage to the sensor should be first checked.

It is not necessary to purchase only CHRYSLER electrical replacement parts.

i was doing some other SRT reading and the timing could be off. the knucklehead that had this car before me did a timing belt and water pump change. he lost 80% of the fasteners to put the car back together. plus stripped the center motor mount bolt. so i had to almost remove the engine to fix all his problems. i checked the timing marks and they were on correct. (never trusted his skills) but now as i was reading the tensioner could be to tight. not riding on spring tension but the bolts were tightened wrong. so it looks like i will be checking the timing again along with the wires tomorrow.

P0016 - Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Misalignment :

Possible Causes:
Camshaft timing is not correct
Crankshaft or Camshaft Sensor signal is erratic
Crankshaft or Camshaft Sensor, harness or connector has failed
PCM has failed

I would suggest using a vacuum gauge for reading, if the belt is off a tooth it will reflect in either a very high idle HG or very low.
An engine that is in good condition will idle between 16-18 steady on most 2.4 engines.

yes i`m using a scan tool, along with the turn key three times trick. chrysler parts are only a few dollars more then the aftermarket parts.
i`m still thinking its timing. i was thinking after unhooking the battery and on hard acceleration the MIL lamp comes on. if i baby it no light.

I would suggest a full diagnosis starting with the vacuum gauge before taking it apart again.

By any chance did you at least clean or replace the cam magnet?
Check for cracks?

i checked both cam and crank sensors for voltage. i have 5 volts at each. 12 volts on the ground wire. the pulse wire has continuity all the way back to the PCM connector. both sensors are new mopar parts. i removed the cam magnet looks good no broken parts. vacuum cold engine is 16 HG, hot engine 18 HG so that is good.
pulled the front apart on the engine timing marks are exact. so i dug deeper and removed the motor mount the belt tensioner spring was unhooked and spun around the opposite side of the pulley. do you think this has anything to do with the P0016 code ? i did not put it back together yet.
