Default Almost ready to crank

I'll soon be finished with my timing belt replacement. I've read here that it's a good idea to crank the engine before the project is complete so I won't have so much to remove if I have to get back into it. Sounds like good advice but how much would need to be re-installed to see if it will run correctly for a few seconds? Is it OK to leave the engine supported on the oil pan? Etc., etc.?

Thanks.

Yes, you can leave it supported on the jack. Make sure there's a good thick piece of wood between the jack and oil pan.
