Default Break light fuse blowing

In my 2005 pt for the past year ive had the break light fuse in the engine compartment blowing probably every few weeks or months. I took the back lights off and looked for bare wires but they all looked great. Next step i guess is take the plastic off on the hatch. Is this a known issue where i could hunt down a troubled spot?

If you have a hitch and are wired for trailer lights, start there. If not, let the search begin!

My only suggestion now is to start at one end and inspect the wires as you go.

Have you checked the tail lights themselves..??
They have a tendency to crack & let water in blowing out the bulbs.
You didn't mention bulbs, but it's possible it's blowing your fuse.

I pulled out the tail lights and looked the wires over and did replace a half out bulb.... I didn't think that could blow a fuse however. Ive never seen water get in them before either.

Do check the CHMSL (center high mount stop light) unit!

The 2005 PT44 (four-door) brake-light circuit is as follows:

Battery, PDC fuse #12, brake-light switch, wires, connectors and splices, bulb sockets, bulbs, grounds.

There are two separate grounds. The CHMSL and left lights are grounded in the left rear quarter; the right light in the right.

Of the three connectors, C106 is a known source of electrical problems.
It is the large grey connector behind and below the dash fuse-block; on a bracket next to the large white connector.

C202 is a white connector under the left kick-panel, forward of the driver door.
C302 is behind the rear-left speaker cover.

The brake-light circuit wire color is white/tan from the brake-light switch all the way back to the bulb sockets.
