Default TCM 2007 turbo

Replaced TCM to solve problem of nonworking headlights however engine will not crank unless the old box is reconnected which ofcourse puts me back with no lights. My question is does the used TCM that I installed have to be programmed to my car some way and if so is this a dealer only fix?

Did you replace it from a Turbo car? Turbo and NA are different.

If you pulled the PCM out of a parts car it most likely needs programmed.

If you bought it from a repair shop... it should be plug and play.
Third senario is you get the ignition cylinder and key and skim module from the same car and install them in your car. Door keys need rekeyed
Or get your computer reprogrammed from Sykes ( probably spelled that wrong)to eliminate security.

First, the number on the side sticker of the PCM needs to match to have the right programming. The sticker on the front is just the hardware number. The number on the side sticker is called the "Authorized Software Update" number. And even if you have the correct PCM with correct programming, you must have your VIN number flashed into it. Otherwise the SKIM will kill the engine briefly after starting. And after several tries, it will not start at all.

Second, do the headlights work with the new PCM installed?

And to answer some of your questions, some independent shops can update both programming and VIN if they have the right tools. Updating your original PCM may fix the headlight issue as well, if they work with the new PCM and this verifies the problem. Forum member Myckee may have a used PCM for sale that will work in your car and he can flash your VIN into it as well. If you cannot find a solution with the one you have, you might give him a PM.

PS: For a 2007 "Turbo Light" (turbocharged Limited or Touring model), I suspect your Authorized Software Update number is 05187749 (ab,ac,ad, etc...)
