Default engine start issue

hello all, this is my first post and im looking for a small bit of help. I have a 02 pt cruiser that the timing belt had broken on. I went and got a new head and a new belt and installed it according to the haines manual that I also purchased. But now that it is reassembled it will not start. I have both fuel and spark and when I crank it over I get a single small back fire, but the engine never actually gets going. I have done this procedure on a single over head cam neon before with no issues, but was unsure if there was something I could be missing with this motor being a dual overhead engine(2.4 liter). Any assistance you guys might be able to offer is more then welcome thank you for your time

Welcome to the forum. A few people that have done your kind of work sometimes mess up by putting the connections back on the wrong sensor. A couple of them will connect up and it may seem right but are wrong. I believe it's the camshaft sensor connection and the coil pack connection.

Here's a link that talks abut it...

Welcome to the forum from Texas. The cams may not be lined up correctly. It took me 4 times before I got mine lined up. There are some great threads on here about timing belt replacement.

Go to Tech and performance, then go to "How to".

thanks Texas.....i have checked them they are perfectly lined up ....and i have been a member of neon.org for like 12 yrs lol i know to look through stickies before asking lol . its just frustrating cause i have gone over most of the common stuff that typically gets missed was thinking perhaps there was something im not typically accustom to that might be out of wack that might have been pt cruiser specific. have done this on multiple vehicles mostly neons and never had an issue like im having now

You may want to try using your old cam sensor and magnet. or unplug cams sensor and try But I suspect timing is off. Compression check??

Make sure you are getting a good spark from all four cylinders.

As JoeX suggested do an engine compression check.

Is the fuel pressure at 58 +/- 5 PSI?

Are you triggering any codes?

Ok thought I would give you guys an update on my findings so that perhaps it may help some one in the future. So the head I got was from an 07 pt cruiser and apparently event though it looks like its the same I found an issue that was the cause of all my problems. The timing dowel holes for the interrupter magnet was so out of sink that even though the car was physically in time, electronically it was not.Attached is a photo of the timing differences note in the photo both intake cams are set the same position.
