Default oil comsumption

I've read some threads on the amount of oil the pt cruiser uses in 3000 miles. I'm glad I checked it because it was 1 1/2 qts low in 1500 miles. This seems exceesive. It doesnt have any leaks and doesnt smoke at all. Where is this oil going? I read that chrysler says its normal to add 1 qt in 1000 miles? Thats craziness!!! Mine is a 2005 with 152k miles.

I have a 2006 2.4 non turbo With 192k and bought at 2.5yrs old @ 36k ... I had same concern initially but other than using 1/2 qt ~ 1000 miles it does force me to stay on the oil which may be a good thing since it also reminds me to change oil and filter regularly that would otherwise become asphalt.

I use synthetic as an FYI ... What I still can't get over is the lousy mileage 23-25mpg HWY that a small car like this struggles to get. Tuned up or not ...

I get 25 easily when not running the a/c. I have gotten 31 on a long road trip with cruise control on at 70. Its a heavy, under powered car. I just use it so I dont rack up miles on my truck. The oil consumption is like I've never seen before.

I've changed the oil in my 03 Dream two or three times since I've owned but don't remember ever adding in between changes. I use Mobil 1 synthetic in all my PTs and other cars as well.
I haven't got my PCH Street Cruiser licensed yet so it will be interesting to see how it drives as an N/A car compared to my Turbo one. When I checked my mileage once on a trip I got 26mpg using cruise control when practical and only 22 when not using cruise control on the return trip. I do not use Premium but rather Regular in the Turbo car.
