Hard Starting
Hi.
I am having a problem with my 2001 PT. Lately, when I try to start it, the speedo and tach needles bounce all the way up and back and the engine won't start. I let it sit for and minute and it will fire up. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Thanks.

Welcome to the Forums-
When you first try - does the engine "fire", but just not "catch" or crank without any ignition? Haven't heard of your symptoms with tach & speedo. Dunno how many miles you have, but plugs & ignition wires go bad - get Champion Platinum plugs & Crane or Magnecore wires (much better than stock) and start with that - can't hurt, and you'll need them at some point anyway.

Mine just did the exact same thing for the first time. 2001 PT Cruiser w/ about 55K miles. Anyone have any ideas? [xx(]

Just a guess but it might have something to do with the security devices. Never had it happen to the PT, but once in awhile, my Vette won't start. Everything lights up on the dash but no ignition, so I let it sit for 4 minutes and it works. Found out that if the key has been anywhere near anything magnetic, it triggers some sensor that won't let the car start.
Do you both have a second key? Try using them for awhile. Can't hurt.[:I]

Turned out to be a dead battery. I am missing the "thermowrap" around the battery[:I], the heat drastically shortens the battery life. Bet the thermowrap is more than the battery! [B)]
