Default 2003 PT - Need HELP with Timing belt & T350 Trans maintenance

All,

The Specs - Wife's 2003 Non turbo PT Cruiser limited with 175,000 miles
T350 manual transmission

Issues - Timing belt needs replacement
Transmission leaks from housing and needs to be removed/repaired
Clutch replacement - 175K on original
Oil leaks I believe from, Oil pan, crank & axle seals and valve covers
Airbag light stays on.

I have tools, dry place to work and the wife wont need it for a few weeks.

Any advice, suggestions, links, videos, what to replace or look for while performing this major task would be appreciated. Also any recommendation on part brands. I believe I will try and purchase most of the parts from rockauto.

Please forgive me for mainly asking for help and not giving much on this blog. For over five yrs now I have been caring for my 87yr old mother who is now in the later stages of Alzheimer.

Thanks again in advance..

You've got quite a list of issues going on with the PT.

Is this still the original timing belt?

For the timing belt job, at the same time while the area is torn apart, you should replace: timing belt, water pump, tensioner, idler pulley, cam seals, crank seal, center motor mount with new bolt.

Sorry to hear about the situation with your mother.

In the HOW TO section, we have about 5 threads on the timing belt. You might want to look over a couple of them for reference before trying the job. Sorry about Mom, went through that while over in England with my Mother-in-law.

I just did the job on my 07 Pacific Coast Highway Street Cruiser. It takes time but I got it done once I rounded up the correct tools.
I replaced the timing belt belt, tensioner, idler pulley, cam. Seals, front motor mount and bolt, and upper and lower torque arms.
I spent two weeks off and on due to weather and baby sitting grand kids. I think I did about twelve actual work hours but next time am sure it will be a two day job. I'm working in the driveway with jackstands and hydraulic jack.

As CREWZIN said look at the how to,s. The harmonic tips thread is a good place to start. Will compliment the other belt threads there. Don't forget to photo the job as you go. And especially the marks before you close up.

Other than being a bit tight to work on the timing belt and the related parts does take a bit of time to complete. If you don't have one I would suggest getting a good harmonic balancer puller. If you don't want to purchase one your local parts store should have one you can rent.

I looked around a bit for some videos that might help and found one, it's actually a series for the timing belt. I scanned through them and they cover the job well. Here's the link

I didn't disconnect my AC lines when I did mine so it'll take a little bit longer to work around them

If the a/c is currently working properly don't do anything to it.
