Exclamation Not starting

Hello,

I have a 2006 4 Cylinders B 2.4L MFI DOHC, 190k miles.

2 weeks ago, I tried to start my car & it was dead. I had a coworker jump start it so I could go 1/2 mile up the road to AutoZone for a replacement battery. Just as I turned into AutoZone, the car died again & I replaced the battery. It ran fine for 2 weeks & now it's dead again.

A few things I've noticed. About 6 months ago, if I drove farther than about 50 miles, my dash would go nuts. All gauges (gas, temp, etc) would drop to zero, back to regular, & the starting sequence lights (oil, check engine, etc) would go thru it's normal start sequence. It would do this repeatedly with no change in the actual mechanics of the running vehicle (ie slow down, hiccups). A week to a few days before the dead battery, my radio would change, ie from 99.9 to 99.7.

Things I've done:

1. Replaced the battery again. Would not start, no clicking, no power to locks, lights, nada
2. Tested new battery, alternator (tried starting with tester on battery, steady 12.74 before & after), tested starter relay which is good.

Any ideas on what to check next to eliminate the easiest & most likely problem? It's in a town 40 minutes away so I have to do as much as possible in short bursts.

Most likely it's your ignition switch.

There is no power, including locks & lights. Would the ignition switch affect those?

No, but you didn't put that in your 1st post.

Check these ground wires for corrosion & frayed wires...pull them off the fender & checked them.
The 2 wire sets are behind the air box on the drivers side, you will have to remove the box to inspect them.
Unhook the battery 1st.

I would suggest checking the battery cables and the battery cable connectors. Make sure it clean and making good contact on both ends of both battery cables. Sometimes the battery cables go bad, sometimes they are loose where you can't see them, etc. Check the continuity of both battery cables.

I'm very sorry. I thought I covered everything but obviously missed some stuff.

Yes, there is no power anywhere. I replaced the connectors which go on the battery terminals the 2nd time the battery died because one was corroded & falling apart & I thought that was the issue, new battery, new cable connectors. I have not tested the wires because they looked ok. I will do that next. Any other suggestions since I'd like to test 2-3 issues at a time until I eliminate all possibilities?

Check the voltage on the wire going from the ignition switch to the starter when you are trying to start the Pt Cruiser. It should be the smallest wire going to the starter.

Check the main fuses including the IOD fuse in the fuse box. Check to see if you are drawing excessive current going to the battery with the ignition on.
