Default QUIETER but still cool Exhaust!

SO, I have been trying to figure out how to quiet the Bassani exhaust on FIREBALL for a while, without cutting into it and adding a muffler. I have been mulling over the idea adding of some kind of baffle to the left side to force more out of the right side, since the left is basically just a straight through arrangement.

Just by chance I saw a discarded tuna can in the recycle bin and for the heck of it tried fitting it into the exhaust pipe, and BINGO! it is a perfect slide fit. So what I did was remove the label, cut a hole in the center and tried it.

Nice! Outside the car it doesn't sound bad, and inside, it's almost as quiet as the stock exhaust. YAY! My plan is to make it removable, so when going to car shows I have the loud exhaust, and for everyday driving, it's quiet. Right now it's just held in with a zip tie, using the drain hole, but I will drill a hole in the tailpipe farther back and add a screw and nut.

Yeah, yeah I know...... It's dumb, but it's cheap, it works, and I can always get a replacement can if/when it rusts out.

UPDATE: Also posted in "What did you do to your cruiser today?" I painted the center of the can with black high-heat paint, and secured it with a sheet metal screw that sticks down into the drain hole of the tailpipe.

Nice job, Wingman! I was just going to suggest a self tapping sheet metal screw to hold it in.

I may paint it black, or just see if it darkens up as I use it. (See Update Above.)

Proof that it works: My wife didn't believe me, so we went for a ride and she was amazed. (I'm kinda amazed myself.)

I agree with rob, paint it black to make it sort of disappear.

Wondering how well you would be able to get around in The Streets of San Francisco with a restricted exhaust?

I might add without at least a set screw I am sure that the exhaust would at some point "spit" out the can?

Yeah, it did 'spit' it out when I just tried a press fit.
