Smile Car wont start.

Hello Friends...
I have a 2004 PT Cruiser where the car starts for 60 seconds and then it will die. Crank, Crank & Crank but wont fire back up until I disconnect the battery for 1-2 minn and then re-connect and it will fire back up for 60 seconds and die again. My question is this, could this be a faulty Fuel Pump or most likely a Crankshaft Sensor?

Thank you.

Is the check engine light on? Have you used an OBD2 scan tool to check for any check engine codes? It's hard to say what it could be without more information.

I would suggest a battery load test. Make sure your battery voltage is not dropping after you start the engine.

The first code was P0688 but could not find that number when I looked it up. Could this be a stored code? or could it be an ECM issue?

I found this online on several websites for P0688:
"defective ECM relay or faulty wiring."

Also as ptcruisersteve suggested weak battery; Low voltage while cranking

Are you getting engine trouble code P0688?

No start. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will not ground the Automatic Shut-Down Relay (ASD) relay. Code P0688 is stored....
2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.4L, Vin B
Test Details... Confirmed Fix Details...

Tests/Procedures: 1. Ground the control wire from the ASD relay at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Also try test the ASD relay operation with the ATM tests found in a compatible scan tool.

17 Confirmed fixes

Automatic Shutdown (ASD) Relay
Automatic Shutdown (ASD) Relay Wiring
Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

8 - Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
2 - Fuse #19
1 - Fuse #32
1 - Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM)
1 - Fuse #18, Fuse Box Terminals
1 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Connector, Ignition Coil Assembly Connector
1 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
1 - Automatic Shutdown (ASD) Relay
1 - Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Wiring

I still suggest checking the battery and battery charging system first.

Sounds to me like you've got the wrong key. Are you using a chipped key or a "valet" key? Yeah, it could be that simple. If your PT uses a chipped key and you're using a key you got made somewhere, that's normal. SKIM is not reading the chip, assumes the car is being stolen and shuts it down.
