Default Backfire / popping

I just cant get a break with this damn thing. It has been 2 years since it ran, every time I think its done, it isn't. I have replaced almost everything on the car.

I can drive the car around with no problem as long as I don't mash the throttle. It runs and idles fine but as soon as I try get on it starts popping and back firing. What good is having a turbo if you cant beat on it periodically. I have done my best to check for vacuum leaks and to the best of my knowledge, there isn't any.

Any suggestions.

Have you tried emptying out the tank of old gas and installing fresh premium grade fuel ?

To make sure we are not in a guessing game please post what you have done to the Pt Cruiser to solve this problem so far?

Everything has been replaced and the timing is correct.

I would suggest checking the fuel pressure that should be 58 +/-5 PSI.

If the fuel pressure is greater than 48 PSI when accelerating then I would suggest you check your CAT. Make sure it is not clogging up.

What brand and type spark plugs did you put in the PT Cruiser?

What gap did you set the spark plugs at?

What brand spark plug wires did you put in it?

Perhaps the backfiring has something to do with a lean fuel ratio. The fuel pressure regulator is integrated into the fuel sending module inside the gas tank. Did you ever do a pressure or volume test like suggested above ?

i would suggest hooking up a vacuum gauge to see what the needle does...

followed by a compression check.

i had a weird issue. slow car, backfire. it was more or less an intake valve failing to close. here: here's a new one
ptcruisersteve and chuzz like this.
