Default Head Gasket vs engine removal

So my cruiser just hit 166k yesterday and unfortunately it's now developed a head gasket failure. I'm fine with that and will take some vacation time to rip the beast down. I guess the cruiser has missed our bonding and garage time together.

My dilemma is just removing just the head or pulling the engine and R & R everything while it's on an engine stand. I would also replace the block seals, gaskets and transmission main seal while the engine is out.

I don't think there would really be much of a time savings but it would be easier to do every thing with the engine out. Yeah, I do have a tendency to over fix things however, I never really have any mechanical break downs.

Your thoughts?

Its really your choice. You could remove the head in the PT's and access the short blocks cylinders?
Personally in my own PT Cruiser when and if I blow a head gasket I will be pulling the engine!
But then I have been accumulating "stuff" awaiting an experimental rebuilt for the 2.4+ rebuild.

Have fun with what ever you decide.

Thanks Nitro, I've been leaning towards pulling the engine it just seems a better way to go.

I vote for pulling the engine too. It just makes more sense to do everything at once and do it right if you're going to keep it for a while.

WHAT

You mean that you don't already have another engine rebuilt, sitting in your garage under a cover just waiting to be slapped into your PT

What are you waiting for
