Default Oil light and warning bell come on when stopping

I have a 2004 pt cruiser with 119,000 mikes on it. The timing belt has been replaced. Uses no oil and has been garage kept . We had the oil changed and now the oil light and warning bell comes on when you stop at s traffic light. This only happens after you have driven it for at least 45 minutes. Had the oil sending replaced and still comes on. Had the oil pressure checked today and its 70 when could drops to 25 after a while and then down to 15. Im not sure if this is okay. We are tryimg 20/50 motor oil in it. Thinking about it the oil breaks down when hot so if we go a little heavier oil maybe this will work. Any one out there have or had this problem? Need help. Son uses this car for college. Thanks

Normal is 4psi at idle and 25-80 at 3000 rpm.

What rpm are you testing it at?

If idle, I world unhook the sensor. If you still see the light, you have a short. If no more light, return the sensor and try another.

Grounding the wire should turn on the idiot light, unhooking should turn it off.. Just in case you wanted to do testing

What brand and weight oil did they put in your Pt Cruiser?

Where did the new oil pressure switch come from? That can make all the difference in the world. I'd take it back to the shop and have them replace it with a QUALITY part, like a Mopar one from the dealership.

$12 vatozone special outlasted my car. it's just an on off switch.

after re-reading the post, i'd suspect these guys are on the right track questioning what oil the place put in the car. if they stuck 0w20 in there i could see the pressure being too low. IMO an at home oil change with the correct weight oil would be step #1

^^^^ The very reason I TRY to do all of the wrenching on my cars myself. I don't trust other people to "work" on my stuff. I get that from my Dad. He worked on everything he owned.

The oil sending unit is an OEM part from the dealer. We heard of too many horror stories on aftermarket parts. The oil we use is a 20/50 oil from Brad Penn. It is a partial synthetic high performance oil "The Green Oil" with high levels of Zinc.

Did you buy the oil and gave it to the dealer to put in your Pt Cruiser?

Per my PM from the other thread, if me, I would first change my oil and filter and see if it goes away. I'd use a name brand 5W30 oil (synthetic if turbocharged) and a name brand filter. I would not use 20W50. It's doing you no good and potentially a little hard in a stock PT Cruiser.

If the light remains, I'd change the oil sending unit (if not already changed). If that does not work, I'd purchase a cheap (<$20) mechanical oil gauge and hook it up so I could see if I truly have low oil pressure.
