Default 2.4 power steering problem

Hi all been away from the group as I was advised to sell my 2.0l due to poss overheating probs, but just bought a 2005 2.4 manual cruiser with 58000 on the clock. The steering has suddenly lost power? Reservoir full, no leaks, a bit confused as there seems to be a couple of conflicting comments, some say it's driven by the serpentine belt and others say it's a separate belt? How difficult to change/adjust

On my 2003 GT, there were two belts. One for the water pump, crankshaft, a/c and power steering and a separate one for the alternator. Not that difficult to change. Maybe a 30-45 minute job. It took me about 45 minutes to change both, but I'm a fat, old disabled man that moves slowly. Hardest part was getting to one of the bolts on the alternator for me. Adjusting bolt, IIRC.

Welcome back to the forum from Texas.

Chuzz is right, there are two V-belts on your Cruiser. One for the alternator and one for the A/C and P/S. They both run off of the crankshaft. You should be able to see if the belt has broken. The P/S and A/C are on the front of the engine where you can see them. Turn on the A/C and see if it works. If the belt is still on, the P/S pump is probably bad.

Thanks guys.
It seems the belt is intact so leads me to suspect the pump! Just finding difficulty scourcing a rebuilt one as I assume a dealer part is expensive. And hesitate to replace with a unit from a salvage yard.

What about ordering from the US from a source like RockAuto.com. I believe they do international shipping:
