Default multiple cylinder misfire code

my 06 non turbo is throwing a multiple cylinder misfire..

new wires and plugs,coil
when I start it acts like its flooded? it stutters and smokes a little till you rev it up a few times then it smooths out..

Idles good and runs good just the start up is rough if it sets awhile?

would the IAC cause this? or the TPS? any thought on the rough start up?

First thing I would suggest is getting the engine trouble codes with the OBDII Scan Tool. Post what codes your Pt Cruiser is triggering. This way we are not just guessing at what the problem might be.

It could be any of the things you described. One thing that describes all of it is a leaking injector. After the engine is shut off, the fuel rail remains pressured. A leaking injector would drip gas into the intake port on one cylinder. At the same time, the fuel rail looses pressure. Unless you turn on the key for a few seconds before start up, three cylinders will be waiting for fuel while one is flooded. Thus, smoke and multiple misfires that all clears up after a short period.

If me, I'd first make sure I have a good code reader as ptcruisersteve suggests. I'd clear all the codes with the code reader and then start the car see which codes return after the bad starting occurs. This may help you narrow it down. Let us know what you find.

I would get the current engine trouble codes and record them before resetting it with the OBDII Scan tool. This way the next time you check for engine codes you will see if there are any changes that would indicate possible random codes.

I would suggest you also have the head resurfaced before putting it back together. The tolerance for for warping is only .004. It's a good idea to replace the head bolts also. I know the manual provides information on checking the but for the little they cost better to just replace them.
