Question Is my Car TURBO GT or TURBO LITE?

I got it used few days ago and I read online that Premium oil is recommended, but then also read that if its TURBO lite regular oil is just fine.

Mine is a 2005 PT Cruiser Convertible

On the back of my car it says 2.4 Turbo - Touring Edition or something slong those lines..

I can upload a pic with exact words if need be..

Can anyone let me know what kind of Turbo is my car?

Another reason for asking is because even thought its Turbo, the pickup is not extraordinary even with Premium oil, it seems to be okay..

So,maybe my PT is a Turbo lite?

I hope its a lite..good for me since I wont be using the Turbo except once in a blue moon..

Thank you

Welcome to the forum

You can go to this website and get the Build Sheet for your PT:

https://www.dodge.com/webselfservice/dodge/index.html

In the left hand column under YOUR VEHICLE then Equipment Listing, then in the white box in the middle enter the VIN then hit the red Search button.

The Build Sheet will tell you everything about your PT.

When you get a chance, please go to Welcome New PT Cruiser Members - PT Cruiser Forum and create an intro thread

Rick's answer is best because it will tell you all kinds of stuff about your car. But if it says Touring or Limited on the back, it's a turbo lite. The badges on the back of a 2005 GT will look just like this.

rockandroller and myckee like this.

Since it says Touring or something similar and not GT, then it is not a GT but is a "turbo Lite". Regardless, since it is a turbo, there is an oil line that feeds oil to the turbo that gets super hot from the heat produced from that turbo. Regular oil gets cooked and 'cokes' up that line, eventually starving the turbo from its much needed lubrication, and the turbo eventually fails. Replacing a turbo can be a very costly proposition. So it is recommended that you use SYNTHETIC oil instead of regular oil. Synthetic oil is much more resistant to high heat and won't coke the line as easily as regular oil. There are also other benefits to synthetic oil as well so it is very good for the longevity of your engines other components.

I use synthetic in every engine I own from cars to lawnmowers to snowblowers.

Its a turbo lite. It is designed to run on 87 octane. No need to spend more on fuel. You made the comment you weren't going to use the turbo. The turbo is in use all the time. The boost comes with rpm. The turbo was a performance enhancement not an economy enhancement. Its a very noticeable when accelerating and passing. So, there were 3 flavors of PT. Normally aspirated (21 mpg), Turbo (19 mpg), GT (who cares, its a GT, get on it and pass a Mustang.) You don't sound like you knew about PT's. Beware the 100K miles service point. LOL, you've been warned.

@Student Cruiser, where are you from?

Your car data says "US spec" and "Ship to California" but your calling fuel oil and using kilometers/liters instead of miles/gallons says you are not from the USA.
