Default CPM Issue

I purchased a CPM for my 2005 GT and now the speedometer doesn't work. Any suggestions? I have a P0501 error code.

First, why did you get a new PCM for your car? Was the old one bad? What were the symptoms of this?

Next, the code you have is Speed Sensor Out of Range. Basically, the PCM and instrument cluster are not getting good data from the speed sensor that's located on the side of the transmission. Some, but not all, of the likely reasons might be:

Lead to sensor accidentally pulled loose during PCM installation.
Lead broken or damaged during PCM installation.
Plug on PCM providing sensor data is not making good contact.
Installation of the wrong PCM for your car.
Installation of a faulty PCM.
Screwed up PCM due to experimental performance tuning/flash.
Bad speed sensor unrelated to PCM installation.

Again, tell us more about why you installed a new PCM and it may help us narrow this down. Other's may have additional things to check.

Long story short, $900+ dollars later the dealer replaced the wires and plugs. Still had error codes and I replaced the o2 sensors (oem). Dealer had the car on three different occasions totaling 3+ weeks. I replaced the pcm with one from an '04 Gt. I'll check for loose wires that may have happened during install

So the replacement pcm did confirm that your original one was faulty since it did not have any oxygen fsensor codes, but now you have a non working Speedo.

So Handy covered all the possible causes in his post. All GT 5spds used the same trans and same sensor and the 04s and 05 have virtually identical the same programming, so the 04 part should not have any issue in your 05. Try plugging and unplugging the three connectors on the pcm. Check the VSS. The wires can corrode and break at both the sensor and at the plug.

P0501 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Performance Conditions:

Possible Causes:

1. Check for any ABS/RWAL or TCM codes related to the VSS
2. VSS connector is damaged, open or it is shorted
3. VSS signal is open, shorted to ground or shorted to power
4. Incorrect tire circumference
5. ABS/RWAL controller, BCM, ECM, TCM or PCM has failed

I would suggest checking the VSS connector first.
