Exclamation 2006 won't shift out of first

I have a 2006 pt cruiser that won't shift out of first. Throwing codes p0740 (torque converter clutch solenoid/ open) and p1745 (transmission line pressure too high for too long) any ideas on what would be the cause? Thank you

Never mind found a bunch of messed up wires on the tranny connector. Does anyone have a wire diagram for the transmission wires?

You can download the service manual for your PT from my Google Drive at this link. It should have complete wiring diagrams in Section 8.

Thanks handy! That was the ticket! Fixed the buggered wires at the transmission sensors and switched out the solenoid unit. Thank you! My sisters PT back cruisin' again!

How the heck did a bunch of wires get "messed up"? Someone else screwing with it or maybe some rodents? Wires don't just get "messed up" for no reason. Inquiring minds want to know!

Well when I went to inspect the wires, I found that the connector for the transmission sensors had been previously replaced and installed with crimps. When I started to pull back the electrical tape they started coming out. When I went to solder and heat shrink them back together I found that the connector had been replaced with one with all purple wires instead of matching the wires like it should. So I had no way of to know which one went where. Then I figured I should flush the transmission and change the solenoid pack while I was in there. Car shifting and driving great now.

Exclamation Re: 2006 won't shift out of first

Hey so, just kidding. The car started doing the same damn thing. Was working then all of a sudden next time she drove the car low and behold it's not shifting out of low range again. I'm not there with my scanner so I had her take the battery terminal off to reset the computer and when she reconnected the battery the car shifts like it should again. What would cause it to go out again and then start working when the computer is cleared? Anyone ever experience this issue?

P1745-TRANSMISSION LINE PRESSURE TOO HIGH FOR TOO LONG

The Transmission is not designed to operate in open-loop line pressure control for an extended period time. This DTC is intended to protect the transmission. If the DTC sets, the transmission controller will place the transmission into limp-in mode.

Possible Causes:

Line pressure DTC's present

In order to erase P1745 you must reset the VLP Shift Counter and the Output tooth counter which is a procedure in the scan tool called "Clear Variable Line Pressure (VLP) counters".

P0740 is for Torque Converter Clutch(TCC) solenoid circuit error, which is a transmission fault.

Possible causes:

1. Faulty TCC solenoid
2. Short in wiring harness to the TCC solenoid
3. Faulty TCM
4. Failing Torque Converter.

You will need to fix P0740 code before you can reset P1745 code. I would suggest checking the wiring harness going to the TCC solenoid. If the wiring harness is good then I would check to see if the TCC solenoid is working properly.

Did the P0740 code come up again with the P1745 code?

Thanks Todd. I just grabbed the manual from your link. I didn't have the second gen manual and it turns out I need it.
