I am planning on installing the throttle body spacer and K&N FIPK soon. My dad installed both on his 99' F-150 4.6L, and he went from about 14mpg to 20mpg. The truck sounds a lot meaner, and really improves HP and throttle response.

What do you guys think about the Borla intake system? Whats the difference between the K&N intakes and the cheap $20 stuff on Ebay? They appear very similar. Any thoughts?[xx(]

You pay for what you get, especially in car parts. If you buy that $20 intake off of E-bay, you might as order up a new K&N filter, a new pipe, new plumbing, new connectors and fittings. Oh look, you've just spent enough money to buy a K&N FIPK. Don't go for that super cheap stuff on E-bay.

What CHROMEDCRUISER said about buying the cheapie. [:X] You can make your own for cheaper than the K&N but you got to do it right. I made a couple for my '01 and liked them, but I settled for the Airaid intake. The price is right and it's a pretty good closed system so you don't suck in a bunch of hot engine air.

I have the Airaid box on my 02 Dreamer woks and sounds great I get about 19-20 mpg in town and 28-30 on the hiway thats cruising at 70-75 mph with the a/c on and cruise control on, I got no complaints!
If you buy the spacer, just put it on your desk as a paper weight! It will work better there then on your engine.

I had a Helix throttle body space on my N/A PT that I purchased from Moss Motors www.cruiserbits.com. I had it installed at the same time as a K&N FIPK so I don't know if it made any difference. However, the FIPK made a noticeable improvement in performance plus I really liked how it sounded. I also installed a Borla 2.25" dual exhaust which sounded good but didn't seem to help performance. Lastly, I had headers installed which increased performance slightly. I tried both the Hedman 4-2-1 ceramic coated and the JBA 4-1 titanium coated headers and preferred the JBA's. I had two different pair of the Hedman headers and both broke along the welds. No trouble with the JBA's plus they had more higher RPM kick.

purple, you said you have had problems with hedman headers? I was looking into getting some new headers in the future, what happened to them? I take it that you would not suggest I buy them if they busted at the welds. How long after you installed them did that happen??

I think the problem developed right away, probably from wheel hop during burnouts. I really didn't notice the problem right away until I popped the hood and inspected the headers with a bright light. Since I had two go bad at the welds on the engine side, I switched brands. But shortly after I got the JBA's, I traded my N/A PT for a turbo. FYI, I purchased the Hedman headers from Moss Motors and they took care of me both times. Excellent customer service.

So once you got the turbo did you upgrade the headers? If so did you use the JBA? Thanks for the info. Do you have URL for Moss Motors?
