Default 03 transmission problems

My 03 cruiser transmission is acting weird. It was rebuilt about 30 thousand miles ago. When you first take off it shifts fine through all the gears. As soon as you slow down and it down shifts, you are stuck in second gear. ThT is until you stop. When you stop it has nothing, like it is in neutral. You have to put it in park and shut the motor off then crank it back up and it will take off and shift fine again until you slow down

I would suggest taking it to a transmission shop where they will check for transmission trouble codes and also might give you an idea of what might be wrong with it. Most transmission shops will do this for free. Post what codes they find.

No way to get it to transmission shop, too far away. I rebuilt the transmission just not sure what would be causing this problem.

If the transmission will not downshift, one of the shift solenoids might be getting stuck open or closed, preventing fluid from entering the transmission valve body to pressurize the correct gear. When you put it in park and start it up again you might be okay until you get to the shift solenoid that might be giving you a problem. The problem is that to do a proper diagnosis you need to know what codes might be triggered to produce the problem you have with your transmission.
