Default Higher idle

I recently completed a head and timing belt job. All seems well except that from the beginning it kept throwing an 0401 code which I will be working on soon. Recently idle has gone up from around 900 rpm to around 1500 (engine in neutral or park) more or less.

Are the two issues related?

P0401 - EGR flow insufficient

The 2001 and 2002 had a special EGR pipe attached to the upper manifold in the back. It's held on by 8mm & 10mm nuts and has to be seated just right.

If someone removed it making repairs on your Pt Cruiser they might not have gotten the pipe correctly seated into the back of the manifold. That would cause a leak in the EGR system and possibly set off the code.

If no leaks I would check the related pipes and see if the are clogged up.
