Default Manual transmission fluid

Want to change the transmission fluid (manual) and thinking of Redline since i've had very good experience in all cars I've had. Any ideas about this or is there any other brand/type that you would recommend?

I had gm synchromesh in mine. Trans didn't last long after that.... I do beat the hell out of things though. If I could do it over I'd just use the stupid atf4 they recommended at the two dealers I called

i take that back. it seems you want a high zddp oil and not ATF4 like chrysler recommends. he starts talking about fluid soon after the 2:30 mark and also explains chrysler switched to save money, not because it was better for the car.

we can be sure the guy in the video is the expert since he designed the car.

the only high ZDDP oils i know of are from mobile1, rotella, and amsoil
rockandroller and myckee like this.

You beat me to it Rob. I was going to reply about Ed Peter's recommendation from that same video.

In the video he recommends Mobil 1 "High Mileage" 5w30 which is a high ZDDP oil.

I suspect the Redline will be fine too if it is high ZDDP.

the issue here is the GT 5 speed transmission is... completely german designed, it's made by Getrag - the same manufacturer who makes transmissions for porsche. and it takes... ATF fluid.

they made chevy cavalier trans's too

my tremek/ford motorsport trans takes ATF because it's an upgrade version with needle bearings under the gears and carbon fiber blocking rings. the ATF makes the carbon blocking rings grab better and therefore it shifts faster and with less wear on the synchro teeth.

this is one synchro assembly i replaced at 110k miles. blocker ring is the guy in the middle with the carbon fiber pads.

the weak version of the same trans has no needle bearings and uses brass synchros. it takes oil.

maybe i'll go back to my original reply. LOL!

I want to mention that ED Peters is selling off all his manual transmissions and parts inventory and will no longer me repairing and modifying them for FWD and MODERN PERFORMANCE should anyone like to get into that business. Both shops are concerned that no one will be bale to supply them with that service should no one purchase all the transmission goodies that many are no longer made and very rare.
PM if interest and I can arrange the contact information with ED
