Default How do i test for 12v present in PDC where high speed fan relay is?

hi

2001 pt cruiser

im doing some troubleshooting with radiator fan issues...

i have no power at fan connector...and per online if you pull low speed fan relay and start the car..it should send power to high speed by default immediately and also check engine light comes on which in my case it does..can someone verify this happens if you remove low speed fan relay and start car
?

i know all fuses and relays are good for radiator fan..i tested them

does anyone know how i can test for 12v coming to PDC at the high speed relay spot..?..which pins would i test for 12v coming in?

its a 5 pin relay

hi i figured it out by looking at the diagram on relay

pin 85 and pin 86 location is 12v power

i just tested and im getting 12v power to the PDC at the high speed fan relay spot

and no power at the high speed fan connector harness

so im getting somewhere lol

I would suggest applying 12 volts to the pin 87 in the high speed relay and see if the high speed fan comes on or you have power going to the fan. If not then you need to check the wiring going to the fan or check the high speed on the fan depending on how you check it.

If the radiator fan comes on when you apply 12 volts to pin 87 on the high speed relay then I would suggest you check the ECT and see if it's working properly.

thank you

the radiator fan does work on high speed..i applied 12v to it at connector...lwo speed soes not work but thats a whole different story

right now im trying to find out why i cant get high speed fan to work when i do indeed have 12v present at high speed fan relay..and the relay is good i swapped with horn and horn worked so that tells me relay good

so if i apply 12v to pin 87 location with the relay removed fan should turn on?.....

also i did test the ground wire at fan connector and it is good..........

right now im getting no 12v at the fan connector...using voltmeter

but i do have 12v present at high speed relay location in PDC....

steve you are saying to apply 12v to socket location for pin 87 right?

with relay removed?

that should send power directly to high speed fan..bypassing the relay?

reason why im doing this is because yesterday i swapped wires at fan connector

i cut green and yellow wires and swapped them with each other

my low speed fan doesnt work and high speed does so i swapped power feeds for experiment purpose...

when engine got to temp the low speed relay kicked in and sent power to my high speed fan and it worked fine.......one time only

after that i tried 5 more times and when engine got to temp and past temp each time the high speed fan would now not power on and i had no power going to connector

so now im trying to find out why i have no power to high speed fan anymore

As you know that the fan is knackered, why don't you fit a new fan and then see if your problems go away?
