Default Key in ignition

I have a 2008 PT Cruiser with 230000 miles on it. I had an issue where the vehicle did not start had the electronics replaced on it. That was about a year ago. Now its saying Key in ignition even when the key is not in the ignition. And the FOB does not work. If I reset the computer I can lock and unlock with my fob several times till it hits that error. I cannot find a way to remove the key cylinder
there is a small yellow tab under the ignition that I can push out and remove what ever its hooked to but have not in fear of breaking something. If you need pictures Ill send them .. Do I need to replace my entire Key system...

thanks in advance OH BTW it drains the car battery after 2 days of not driving it and I have also changed the fob battery 2 weeks ago thinking that was .t

I have taken the multi function switches off and there is a black piece that is right behind the steering wheel. It looks like it can only be removed with the steering wheel off. I can reach the hole but Nothing works not even the 1/16 bit.
any ideas ??? About to give up..

That is mentioned in the Service Manual that it will be needed. Do you have a copy of the Service Manual?

If not, I can PM you a link where you can download a copy from my DropBox.
