Default Pcm swap out.

I have a 2006 pt cruiser. With a bad PCM module. I have 2 questions.

1st: I have a 2005 pt cruiser. With a good one. Can I swap them out?

2nd: I see refurbished ones on Ebay for 1000 dollars. I see used ones for 100 dollars. Plus 100 for programming. Such a large cost difference! Am I OK to use the 100 dollar one.

Welcome to the forum

The Gen1 PCM won't work on the Gen2.

Several months ago, I bought one for my PT from this source on Ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrysler-PT....c100033.m2042

They're a little higher now, I paid $150 with their lifetime warranty.

They will program the VIN and it is truly plug-n-play.

As rckstein said, you can't put a 05 module in the 06. They have totally different programming.

The price of the PCM is generally dictated by whether the car has a turbo or not. PCMs for the turbo cars are MUCH more expensive than the non turbo PCM. You cannot use a non-turbo PCM in a turbo car.

If you post the specifics on your car, we can point you in the right direction.

Well, luckily for you, your car will be okay with one of the cheaper ones. I checked the build of your car and it appears that you do not have ABS. You should double check, yourself, looking at the side of the pcm, on the long white sticker to see the part number. I believe it should be 05033426 (the letters at the end do not matter).

The pcm needs to be programmed, and the cheapest seller right now (not me) is selling it for $134.99 OBO including programming. Or you can buy it from rckstein's link above if you think the lifetime warranty is something you would like to gamble on needing.
