Default Air Bag light stayes on

Just finished a valve cover gasket change and started the car and air bag light stays on, disconnected battery and did a reset, didn't help, anything in the engine compartment that would cause this to happen, something I might have done, I have no chiming bell as I've seen in other posts will driving the car

I would sugggest checking to see if the wires for the air bag sensor got disconnected going to the front of the Pt Cruiser. Make sure you disconnect the battery first and know what you are doing. This can be an expensive mistake if the airbag goes off.

steve i'm pretty sure the PT has no crush sensors, only an inertia module inside the cabin by the parking brake handle

edit.. i see there are two in front

On some PT's there's a ground wire that attached to an electrical noise suppressor that fastened to one of the valve cover bolts. If left off, it can cause some grounding issues. If me, I'd check this and all other wiring around the valve cover. If this only started after the valve cover gasket change, there is a fair possibility that your problem is related one way or another.

If a code is set for the air bag, you may have to get a mechanic with the appropriate scanner to clear the code. I had to replace the clockspring on my wife's car. The air bag light and codes were persistent, disconnecting the battery didn't clear them. I ended up going to a body shop where they checked and cleared the codes. The shop owner said "no charge", I slipped the mechanic a $20 and everybody was happy. Much cheaper than having the dealer do it.

I think it's fixed, the light is turning off when started. I found a video of how to reset the instrument panel and tried that and now everything is working

Do you have a link to the instrument panel reset video?
