Wife just called - her 2002 NA 2.4 automatic is having a problem ....
The airbag light is on and the power windows and heater blower are not functioning. Maybe other items as well, but that's what she noted. Could this just be a bad fuse ? Don't have the manual in front of me and what I can find online is rather vague as to exactly what each fuse controls. She's afraid to drive it home for fear of not makiing it, so I'd like to roughly know what I'm in for when I get there. It's super cold here right now. Mark. (Don't worry, she's not stuck outside .... the wife that is. ![]() |

Don't know about the fuses but look at the pic in post 12
Frustrated! Car battery keeps draining And my posts 5 and 9 here where I talk of ground issues that occurred on my 06. Momentary ignition shut-down |

Check fuse # 3 (40 amp) in the power distribution center (PDC) under the hood. It is a common feed to the fuses and circuit breaker for all three systems that you mentioned. Check the fuse first.
The Power Window Switch and the A/C Heater Control switch share the same ground circuit G203. The air bag control ground is G202.

Thanks for the replies guys - Just got the car home. Will check into those when the weather warms up a bit .... don't have a garage and too damn cold outside !
FWIW, it pulls up an error code P1684 Driver 5 Line 4 - which really doesn't tell ME much. Mark. |

P1XXX codes are manufacturer defined. ( RE not part of the OBD 2 standard so they vary from make to make and likely model to model. )
I'm coming up with battery disconnected in the last 50 starts ( in the 06 -10 manual ) Have you lost the setting for the digital clock ? I've seen batteries get weak enough that the cranking voltage will sag low enough to trigger an error but the car will still start and run. The old standby was if the radio lost presets however, on my 06 the presets remain even if the battery is disconnected for weeks. |

More info, found this code site OBDII diagnostics. Trouble code definition for code P1684. Causes of error P1684 Also, "driver" in this context refers to an output of an electronic module. Driver 5 = chip 5 , Line 4 = 4th output of that chip.
Definition of check engine code P1684: Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep: The battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts Citroen/Peugeot: Metering Oil Pump Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction Fiat: Motorised throttle(plausibility) Ford: Metering Oil Pump Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction GM: Driver 5 Line 4 Honda: Throttle Valve Return Spring Performance Problem Mercedes: Metering Oil Pump Position Sensor Circuit Mini: Electronic throttle control monitor level 2/3 - clutch torque min error Plymouth: Battery Disconnected Within Last 50 Starts Volkswagen/Audi: Contr. The battery hasn't been disconnected, but I did kill it trying to start it last week in this frigid weather. After having jumped it, I did note the clock was off. But, up until yesterday, the heater and windows still worked.

Given the battery was run down enough that the clock lost time, that would trigger a P1684 battery disconnected.
How cold was it the car would not start? Was it cranking but not running or would it not crank? Did you find a reason it would not run? |

May have the same issue myself.
Airbag light consistently on. Power windows/blower intermittently do not work. If they don't come on when I key on, I can key off and back on a couple times and they will work for the entire trip, until the next time. Changed the fuse/breaker in the box and still giving issues. Didn't seem to have the issue the first week I drove the car, it showed up after I put a few miles on it...

Temperature was well below zero and the car hadn't been used for three days. It cranked (barely) but not strong enough to start the car. Once jumped and running, it started every day for the following week until this problem with the airbag light and no windows / blower. Still starts and runs fine, but the problem persists.
Not driving it now because it is too cold to use with no heat. Fortunately, we do have other vehicles to use for the time being .... Mark. |
