Default Parts availability issues

Just a quick note here.

Was changing air filter on Blue and noticed that there was a foam type filtering a small box within the air filter box(crankcase vent filter). It was black, crispy and fell apart when I removed it. NO ONE has even a reference for the part locally, even Chrysler parts had to Google to find the part only to find out it is no longer available. Looked on line and found it, only $4.55 But the shipping is almost $20. Long story short, found a sponge of the same density and cut to fit. Cost me a buck!

That would be the Make-Up Filter, MOPAR 05066076AA:

There used to be multiple sources on Ebay offering these, but not anymore.

I used part of a Briggs & Stratton mower air filter ( the green foam type ) .

The mid 80's Chrysler mini van with a 3.0 V6 used a similar crankcase breather filter. ( There was a small lower and large upper if I recall. These are not critical for shape as long as they breathe and seal somewhat to prevent dirty air from entering the crankcase.

I did something similar to the B&S air filter fix. I got some scraps of open-cell foam and made my own. That's the key, it MUST be open-cell foam (if you can put it against your mouth and breath freely through it, it's open-cell foam).

You can get this type of material at almost any auto parts store, made by WIX, and cut it to fit:
