Default Big Oil Filter Install

Our engines use the small size oil filters so with the idea from our friends at the SRT4 forum I decided to adapt what they have done to our engines. This Big Oil Filter will also work on the Turbo engines BUT you will need to remove the oil cooler, as many have on the SRT4's with no issues. The cooler can be prone to internal leakage (oil into the coolant and rubber hose leakage and deterioration over time if damaged somehow). For the Turbo engines you will remove the coolant feed from the block and install a pipe plug, and on the hose return a plug into the hose and reuse the spring clamp. I have a non turbo engine.

As a comparison in size;
Standard Mobil M1-102 3" diameter and 3.62" long 28.2 in displacement
Turbo Mobil M1-209 3" diameter and 4.75" long 33.1 in displacement
Big Filter Mobil M1-301 3.81" diameter and 5.75" long 65.5 in displacement

Notice the size difference the small filter compared to the Big Oil Filter... The size is skewed a bit because of the camera shot but refer to the dimensions prior.

Bought the Mopar adapter gasket and traced the profile on a piece of 1/8" aluminum and when done sanded it smooth with 320 grit wet/dry with some WD40.

Remove the filter and the adapter. The screws are 8mm head. I sanded the pan surface again with the 320 grit and wiped down with some brake clean..

Looking at the filter adapter noticed the 90 degree turn into the filter and didn't like the hard turn or the main passage over drill. I used a Dremel with a fluted cutter and re-shaped the outlet to a more transition than the abrupt 90 degree wall. Didn't remove much but you will see the difference. I also touched up the inside sharp edges.

I surfaced the mounting base on the adapter again with the wet/dry 320 with WD40.
Reuse the original gasket (cleaned) and stack the 1/8" spacer and the new gasket. I used a wipe of Mopar silicone to make sure all was sealed.
