Default 01 2.4L running issues.

So I just bought a new to me 2001 with 125k miles (super low for its age). I have been assured the timing belt and water pump where done at 90k. Its got a bit of an issue, idle is extremely rough, to the tune of shaking the whole car. It sounds and feels like a misfire but I'm not getting any misfire codes. It's also extremely sluggish off the line, takes the better part of 20-30 seconds to get to 40, but above 40 its responsiveness returns for the most part and it drives fine. OBDII is spitting out codes P0700 and P0720, which tells me PCM requesting MIL and Outboard speed sensor issue. Most likely culprits are either the PCM or Output Speed Sensor, or possibly a plugged catalytic converter (mainly because of the performance issues).

I'm an amateur mechanic, used to older cars without so many computers in them, current daily is a 91 Jeep Cherokee. So I'm not used to tracking down sensor issues and electrical gremlins.

Any and all advice is welcome.

I would suggest checking the wiring going to the output speed sensor and the output speed sensor itself.

If that doesn't fix it clean the contacts on the wiring harness for the TCM as well as the contacts on the TCM itself,

I should be able to just spray them with contact cleaner right? maybe a light brushing? As to the speed sensor, is there a way to test the sensor itself? ohm it out or anything?

Is your speedometer still working after you starting having these issues?

I'll do that when I get off work, if it doesn't work I'll have to take it to my brother-in-law. He runs the shop at the local dodge/etc/etc/etc dealer, said he would get one of the techs to diagnose it for me.

TCM is inside the drivers front fender correct?

Below the battery support plate. You should be able to see it after you take off the air filter cover and box.

I would recommend doing one action at a time and see what the results are. This way you will know what worked and what didn't work.
